Pet Portraits!

These were commissioned by the awesomest, Helen McWilliams!  Her bun, Cody and his stuffed animal "Girlfriend."  Both a blast to paint!  Next time, a sculpted gold-leafed frame is in order!

Portraits from CCAE

Not too long ago, I took an evening continuing ed class with Sholeh Regna.  She was nothing short of fabulous.  I only wish I had more time on each portrait- about an hour and a half each.  I did learn to work very fast!  These are in order of completion:

The Tibetan model was probably my favorite.  He indeed had quite the melon, but I let it get out of control; that sculpture was huge!
This little boy was 8 or 9.  I really enjoyed sculpting his many dough-y chins !!  His profile is soo sweet:)

Father Octopus Posters

I finished FO's show poster this morning, and thought I'd share it, along with the first one I did for them.  I was
wildly "inspired" by Michael Dacey for this newest one, and grabbed a sweet splatter brush from this guy who insists I don't give him credit.

Oh!  And in case you haven't met Louis the Octopus and his potato friend, here are some pictures :)

Back from the dead!

Now that painting and I have been finally reacquainted after a year or more, I think I'll post something..

..I'd been scared to paint for a while, so I figured I'd paint something silly to get back into it- and it made me happy!  I like it.  Go figure.

..And here's Grandpaw himself, in case you haven't met him...

A little further down the...

I just got Alice looked at by Jon. We agreed that we need a new face and more leaf-like leaves.. And the rest needs to have the same feeeeel as the white rabbit (Grandpa!!). That's it for now.. I'm actually really liking working on this! Thank you Jon!!! <3!

Alice, Step One!

First try at placing the characters! This is the scene right as Alice wakes up. The Queen screams "off with her head!" The king is in the bottom left covering his ears, the cards all rise up towards Alice but turn into leaves as they reach her face. And the white rabbit is there, and the lizard is there, and the doormouse is there too!

Postings of Process!

Hi all! In case you were wondering how the cranky capertillar was doing, here's the unfinished sculpture... I've also included a sketch of his beginnings!

And why not do the same for Yemie? I've always liked her early sketches. Click on it!

Capertillar Colors!

Otayy.. Hurray for the variations tool! M'pillar's really lookin' cracked out. Yep. .. I'm thinking the 2nd cracked out caterpillar. Oh, and I got this idea to give him spots, and have the spots melt off and become odd atmospheric spots.. Yeahh.. It's definately seepy time. G'nite bloggy!

A Very Grumbly Caterpillar.

My very first post! Here's work so far on the Blue 'Pillar.. Cory did the middle edit, turning the image and fixing my perspective. This guy sure is a grumbly grub. I feel he's coming along.. But now, sleep!
